Come, thou long expected Jesus

I love Christmas music, especially Christmas music about our Savior Jesus Christ.  One of my favorite hymns this Christmas season is "Come, thou long expected Jesus".  I hadn't heard this one in a long time and as I was listening to the words I began to appreciate, even more so, those songs that proclaim the truth about Him.  I was overcome with a new hope and comfort that I am loved and that the pressure to perform a certain way as a Christian was lifted.  No matter how hard I try,  I am bound to fail in some way each day but I have comfort knowing that Jesus Christ gives me His grace and loves me anyway.  I can only imagine that facing failure without forgiveness on a daily basis would leave me bitter and callused, however, I can rest in the knowledge that it's not by my efforts but "by His all sufficient merit that I am raised to His royal throne."

Come, thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a king,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
