What I am discussing is certainly not earth shattering or anything you probably haven't faced yourself weekly if not daily...

It is so easy to judge our self-worth by comparison to others. If we could only have a car like that, or a house like theirs, or a (fill in your weakness) like that... Or we make ourselves feel better because at least our situation is better than ...

The problem is if this is the way we condition ourselves to think we are never happy. We either give up becuase their is someone always better off, or we are always anxious about how to acheive what others have.

In the midst of a discussion with Jennifer, we were talking about this and afterwards I got an email from Mike that was so appropriate and helped me think about God's vision for our lives. By comparing ourselves with others we limit his plans and provisions for our lives. Wow, how thankful we can be in the daily things he provides for us and in the peace that he will always provide our needs. This outlook is not natural to our human nature, but if we can keep reaching for that peace it is very freeing. His provisions free us from the anxiety and disatisfaction that often plague us if we place value in the temporary.

Does anyone else struggle with this?

Deuteronomy 33:12
Prayer: Lord, even as Moses blessed the tribe of Benjamin, may it remind me today that I can rest secure in You because I am Your beloved and You shield me and let me take my rest in You. Thank You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Day 189
July 7
When you seek to determine your level of self-worth and security by comparison with others, the end result is either complacency or anxiety. In a larger sense, it devalues the promises and provisions of God, who has already guaranteed your value and security based on His unconditional love. You are His beloved. Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders. Deuteronomy 33:12Prayer: Lord, even as Moses blessed the tribe of Benjamin, may it remind me today that I can rest secure in You because I am Your beloved and You shield me and let me take my rest in You. Thank You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
