Alea is finally facing forward in her car seat!!! She has hated her car seat since she was brand new and we have been longing for the day that we could turn her around. We figured out a few months in to having her around that she does NOT like to be disconnected from us in any way. She is one of those babies that, upon becoming aware of her surroundings, cried when I left the room, cries when we leave her in the nursery (she's that baby who has to be held or attended to pretty much the whole time) and cries when we buckle her into the car seat. Well, I can now say that she does NOT cry in her car seat anymore, at least not for the same reasons as she did before. She is like a different baby when we "go for a ride". It's so much more pleasant to travel with her now that she can see all that is going on and is connected with the family. She even sleeps better in her new car seat. Alea's pediatrician recommends leaving your child backwards for as long as possible as there have been studies in Europe that show significantly fewer injuries and deaths while the child is in a rear facing car seat. Some of them leave their children facing backwards until they are 4 years old. After hearing this, I had every intention of giving it a shot but as soon as she was old enough and weighed enough we had her car seat facing the front. I'm glad that we are ALL able to enjoy being in the car together for a change.
Here's another funny story about the nursery this last Sunday. We dropped Alea off as usual and she cried and cried. We even told the volunteers to come get us if she became overwhelming and if they needed to attend to the other children. We sat through service without hearing anything from the nursery so we figured that they were handling her just fine or she finally decided to stop crying. Her cousin Cora was in there with her so maybe that familar face was enough. The dads went to get the girls after service and when Wren came out with Alea, she had her face stuffed full of cookie. When I asked Wren how she did he responded with "they told me that she cried until they brought out the snacks, LOT'S and LOT'S of snacks, so if she doesn't eat much lunch you'll know why". She's always been an emotional eater. Food always makes her happy.
Something that has had me laughing lately, too, is when Alea first wakes up in the morning I'll hear a sing-songy "MaaaaaaaMaaaaa" come out of her room. Now who could resist getting up to that?
